Rooted in Family.
A fifth-generation Arizonan, Flavio proudly embraces his family’s Mexican-American heritage and believes that West Phoenix’s cultural diversity is a strength. As a grandson of both a U.S. veteran and an Arizona copper miner, and a nephew of a United Farm Worker organizer, Flavio grew up with a deep admiration for the civil and labor rights movements and is committed to building off the progress made by those before him.
Flavio is a proud first-generation college graduate. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and philosophy with an emphasis in social justice from Loyola University Chicago, where he had the honor of serving as student body president. As president, Flavio utilized his platform to create a scholarship fund for undocumented students ineligible for federal financial aid. Having benefited from strong mentors throughout his life, he understands the importance of paying it forward and centers this value in his work.
While in graduate school, Flavio served as a live-in volunteer at a migrant shelter where he assisted newly arrived immigrant families as they transitioned into daily life in the U.S. Seeing how policy issues ranging from education, housing, and public health each intersect with one another, Flavio went on to serve as a Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Graduate Fellow in Washington, D.C. In this role, he worked on housing and economic policy for Arizona’s third congressional district.
Each of Flavio’s experiences as an educator, Congressional staffer, and in the nonprofit sector provides him with the skills to help address the district’s most pressing needs while creating opportunities for future generations. He currently serves as a Democratic precinct committee person in Legislative District 26's Granada precinct.
Flavio lives in Central West Phoenix with his wife, Liz.
